DFSA and Central Bank of the UAE logos used in a fraudulent scam

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) alerts the financial services community and the public to a fraudulent form falsely claiming to be from the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) and bearing both the CBUAE and DFSA logos without authorisation.

This fake form was sent to an individual, requesting personal and financial information under the guise of facilitating “outgoing funds”, purportedly linked to the CBUAE. It falsely states:

“This form shall be considered as part of the pre-approval process. The issuing bank will continue to be responsible for ensuring the process complies with the relevant regulations. The Central Bank BOD will issue an approval at the conclusion of the notification process immediately after the Fund release authorization Form (FRAF-A1) is completed and paid for.”

The fraudulent form includes several sections requesting personal identification details, address, financial institution information and a declaration.

In an attempt to make the scam appear legitimate, the scammers have used:

  • the DFSA logo without permission; and
  • the CBUAE logo and a fake CBUAE stamp without authorisation.

The DFSA informs you that:

  • the form is fraudulent and was not issued by the DFSA or the CBUAE;
  • the DFSA does not permit the use its logo without express permission; and
  • the CBUAE does not permit the use of its logo without prior written consent.

The DFSA strongly advises you not to respond to any communications regarding this scam, and under no circumstances should you send or give any money to any party connected to this scam.
