Fake licence used in scam impersonating the DFSA

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) alerts the financial services community and the public to a scam involving the impersonation of the DFSA.

The scammers falsely claim that a firm called Texas Pacific Group (TPG) is registered in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and authorised by the DFSA.

The DFSA informs you that TPG is not registered in the DIFC, and it is not, and has never been, authorised by the DFSA.

In an attempt to appear legitimate, the scammers use a fake licence document (the Fake Licence).  The Fake Licence:

  • is headed “Dubai Financial Services Authority” with the sub-heading “Regulatory Agencies Introduction”;
  • falsely states that TPG’s “Current Status” is “Regulated”;
  • falsely claims that TPG’s “License Type” is a “Cryptocurrency License” with licence number “F003484”. This licence number actually belongs to a legitimate DFSA Authorised Firm with no connection to TPG;
  • lists its address as “Unit S402, Level 4, Emirates Financial…” and phone number as “971 4 526 8666”, both of which also belong to the legitimate DFSA Authorised Firm; and
  • contains two fake stamps with the words “Regulated” and “WikiFX Authentication Centre”.

The DFSA informs you that:

  • the DFSA does not issue licences headed “Dubai Financial Services Authority” with the sub-heading “Regulatory Agencies Introduction”;
  • the licence number, address, and phone number on the Fake Licence do not belong to TPG, but to another legitimate DFSA Authorised Firm;
  • the DFSA does not issue licences listing “Cryptocurrency Licence” as a financial services activity; and
  • the stamps appearing on the Fake Licence are not, and have never been, used by the DFSA.

The DFSA strongly advises you not to respond to any communications regarding this scam, and under no circumstances should you send or give any money to any party connected to the scam.

The DFSA has a page on its website dedicated to alerts which it has issued about scams. All alerts issued by the DFSA may be accessed by going to Alerts
